Development in Moroccan Economy free essay sample

Monetary Environment Development of the Moroccan Economy The Moroccan economy is known for its macroeconomic security. Expansion rates have consistently been generally low, for the most part because of the country’s prohibitive cash system. Morocco has been described by moderate to high development rates. The nation has profited by its low work cost and vital area close to the European territory. Morocco has encountered a more grounded development than expected since the year 2000, brought about by improved climate conditions, a solid fare development and different changing strategies. These changing approaches have been presented by King Mohammed VI in 2003. He concocted various monetary changes bringing about a development of the little present day producing division and the advancement of the travel industry. He has put his primary spotlight on the European Union since the Free Trade Agreement in the year 2000. Morocco’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has consistently gone up since 2002. As indicated by measurements of â€Å"Datamonitor 360† the GDP in 2002 was around 40 billion dollar, in 2010 the GDP had developed to roughly 60 billion dollar. That is an ascent of half in just eight years time. The World Factbook from the CIA makes reference to that in 2010 Morocco positioned number 58 on the planet with regards to the GDP. The genuine GDP development rate has not been negative since 2002. In 2010 Morocco positioned number 77 in the realm of genuine GDP development. The most reduced development rate was about 2,5% in 2005 and 2007 and looked with 7,5% in 2006. This could have been brought about by the Free Trade Agreement with the United States of America, which was presented in 2006. I will additionally clarify the aftereffects of the Free Trade Agreement with the EU and the USA later on in this part. The three primary divisions: industry, administration and agribusiness, all developed consistently the previous ten years. In 2009 the administration area was the greatest division and contributed 49,4% to the GDP, the industry part came next with 31,3% followed by the farming with 19,2%. Morocco has a productive industry area, fundamentally as a result of its a lot of phosphate. The travel industry assumes a major job in the administration area. The travel industry has stayed lively notwithstanding the Casablanca bombings in 2003 and 2007. Morocco’s outside exchange has likewise been expanding consistently, with just a slight abatement in 2009. Be that as it may, the absolute outer exchange despite everything developed from 25,7 billion dollars in 2002 to 77,6 billion dollars in 2009. This is a development of 51,9 billion dollars, which is a development level of around 202%. Despite the fact that Morocco’s economy has been doing admirably the previous decade, the joblessness rate is still generally high. During the period from 2002 to 2008 the joblessness rate was in any event 11%. In 2007 a little decline of joblessness of 300 thousand occurred, as yet leaving 1,1 million individuals jobless. Before the finish of 2008 the joblessness rate was 9,6%. In 2009 an aggregate of 93,000 new openings got made bringing about an abatement to 9,1% before the finish of 2009. We can presume that the general Moroccan economy has demonstrated a genuinely decent turn of events, however there is still much more to improve. The administration has been dealing with new changes that should prompt better business conditions in the nation. Universal Financial Crisis Morocco together with Algeria and Tunisia has been one of the least influenced nations by the worldwide budgetary emergency. The worldwide monetary emergency began with the credit mash in the US. Morocco has not been influenced by this purported credit crunch, since Morocco doesn't have the sort of credit that caused the American credit crunch. Other than this Morocco had negligible presentation to remote resources. Morocco did anyway get influenced by the universal money related emergency when it hit Europe. The Western European emergency brought about reducing development rates. The emergency in Europe didn't just stoppage Moroccan fare rates, yet additionally the travel industry. As European joblessness rates expanded, numerous Moroccans working abroad lost their positions, causing a decrease in settlements. Morocco has had the option to keep the negative impacts of the universal money related emergency to a base because of its great macroeconomic strategy, an open economy, clear exchange approaches and a few venture openings with developing nations in Asia, Latin America and Africa. In view of the impacts the money related emergency has had in Europe and the US, Gulf financial specialists are relied upon to put resources into African nations and the Middle East. Toward the finish of 2008 Gulf financial specialists reported a 1,7 billion US dollar interest in land in Morocco. These speculations and arranged changes will ensure the Moroccan economy will keep on developing later on. Impacts FTA US and EU Morocco’s economy has generally profited by the unhindered commerce understandings it has made with the European Union and the United States. In 1996 Morocco consented to an affiliation arrangement with the European Union. The affiliation got compelling on March 1, 2000. The goal is to have totally unhindered commerce among Morocco and the EU by 2012. In 2010 the EU proposed another exchange accord with Morocco to incorporate obligation unhindered commerce in agrarian, nourishment and fisheries items. On June 15, 2004 Morocco additionally consented to a facilitated commerce arrangement with the USA, which got compelling on January 1, 2006. For America this was the second Arab-US organized commerce understanding and the principal African-US unhindered commerce understanding. During a video of the ‘Moroccan American Trade and Investment Council’ the instructor to King Mohammed VI for monetary and financial issues says about the FTA with the US: â€Å"We need to put Morocco as a stage for business with Europe, with the US, with Asia, China, Africa, Middle East. It was a piece of a worldwide vision of Morocco. † Mr. Hassan, the leader of the Moroccan Business Association says during a similar video â€Å"The Morocco †US organized commerce understanding is an extraordinary open door for the Moroccan economy. † Due to the unhindered commerce understandings numerous American and European organizations have opened foundations in Morocco. These organizations have utilized a huge number of Moroccans causing a decrease in the joblessness pace of the nation. Both unhindered commerce understandings have been a colossal positive development for Morocco. The nation despite everything has a great deal of destitution and joblessness; significantly more is expected to explain the country’s issues. Nonetheless, the nation is one of the most steady African and Arab countries. Current Economic System Morocco has a moderately liberal market economy directed by flexibly and request. Manifestation of Communism - 791 Words

Marx, K. F. Engels ‘Bourgeois and proletarians’ Tom Considine Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.1) said ‘The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.’ (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.1) This is the opening text from Marx and it is the theme of the rest of the chapter. Marx writes of the oppression of the proletarians and how the capitalist bourgeoisie have commodified them. He describes his disapproval for the capitalists stating that there is revolt from the proletariats due to the exploitation that was taking place, this would be the same for any capitalist society. Throughout the text there is the overriding idea that society would benefit with equality and public ownership (socialism).†¦show more content†¦Marx is trying to convey that capitalism is a poor way for a society to operate however i can see that this method would be more efficient and competitive, thus increasing the productivity of the economy. Marxs idea is that property should be publicly owned, individuals should cooperate, production is social and everything is shared equally. Marx, K. F. Engels (1972 [1848], p.42) said ‘Of all the classes that stand face to face with the Bourgeois today, the proletariat alone is a really revolutionary class’ (Marx, K. F. Engels 1972 [1848], p.42). Marx believes this is because the laborers where the individuals who created socialism because they wanted to fight for their rights and become equal. They succeeded because they were the majority and therefore had a power over the Bourgeois because with the labour there would be no capitalism. The first reason I disagree with socialism is because price signals become distorted or absent, the market price for goods and services cannot be rationally allocated if the individuals arent earning income in a free market. If all individuals receive an equal income and everything is shared then what is the incentive to work harder? If there is no incentive to earn a higher wage then individuals may be less motivated. Decreased motivation means that there will be a decrease in efficiency and thus a decrease in production, therefore the economy will suffer. By identifying the marketing perspective in the target market, the research study will identify the sustainable marketing strategy suitable for business growth. Meanwhile, the study describes a detail research of the industry including the 5Cs significant for business proposition. The organisational analysis, market research strategy, market development plan and selective marketing tactics of McDonalds have been formulated drawing insights providing suitable marketing concepts and theoretical models (Al-Weqaiyan, 2005). Understandably, the study has been developed based on thorough research supportive for marketing development. Organisational Background McDonalds is one of the largest convenient foods and beverage restaurant chain business in the world. It has employs around 1.6 million people and has stores in more than 115 countries of the world. It is the market leader in the restaurant chain business with several strong competitors such as KFC and Subway (Reece, 2010). The primary reason for the success of McDonalds business is its distinctive competitive strategies, high standards of performance, superior quality of products, and high integrity of people. Around 85 percent of restaurants of McDonalds are owned by franchisees. The mission of the firm is to become the worlds premier convenient food and beverage restaurant business. The company seeks to provide healthy financial rewards to its investors by giving good opportunities for enrichment and growth to its business partners, employees and the communities (Sakas and Konstantopoulos, 2010). The vision of McDonalds is to become a modern and progressive company by delivering its customers a contemporary experience. Modern in the vision statement means to get the brand in the place where it needs to be in todays market. On the other hand, progressive means to get ready for the future expectations of the customers. In order to meet the changing demands of the demographics, McDonalds serves its customers with a huge product range that includes burgers, breakfast, beverages, desserts and many other items. The oldest marketing slogan that is still yet used by the company is Im loving it! began in the year 2003. On the other hand, the company keeps on experimenting with its product range by introducing localised foods (Ramachandra, Chandrashekara and Shivakumar, 2010). Currently, the brand McDonalds and McCafe has grown to be the second largest convenient food and beverage brand in Australia. The brand name is itself enough to attract people to visit the McDonalds stores. Organisational Analysis A SWOT analysis has been presented to discuss the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of McDonalds: Strengths: The global existence and renowned brand of McDonalds are its primary strengths. Along with that, the successful items and consistency of food quality also acts as strength of the company. Weaknesses: It can be seen through the market research that the declining market share and disgruntled franchisees of the company has emerged to be serious weaknesses of the organisation (Mujtaba and Patel, 2011). On the other hand, the slowed income and revenue growth makes it difficult for the firm to expand its business and hold its market positioning. Opportunities: McDonalds serves only 1 percent of the entire world population and has a good opportunity to expand over the international market. The joint ventures with retailers and supermarkets provide the company with a lower risked opportunity for expanding its business (Mooradian, Matzler and Ring, 2012). On the other hand, the implementation of technology in its service can help the company retain its customers. Threats: The strengths of the competitors are the primary threat for McDonalds. On the other hand, the fluctuation of the currency and global economy makes it difficult for the company to do its customers in the overseas market (Kerin and Peterson, 2001). Customers In the marketing management, identifying the target customers will be the key to long-run success. In the South Australian market, the target consumers can be identified as the most health conscious as well as fast food loving public. Precisely, the target demographic profile is highly educated and professional to say the least (Slater, Hult and Olson, 2010). Hence, the income status of the target demographics will be a significant boost for the fast food restaurant chain business. Meanwhile, in the busiest life schedule of the target demographic profile including children, school and college goers and single-living public, the customers value quality and tasty fast food and timely delivery of orders (Kotler and Keller, 2016). Therefore, the fast food chain must ensure the quality of service to meet the demand of the target customers. In the marketing strategy, the brand name will be efficiently utilised to create an influence on the target demographics. Collaborators In order to create growth in the target market, McDonalds Australia must use their significant supply partners already operating in the other parts of the country. For instance, in the product distribution, Martin Brower can be identified as the major contributor. On the other hand, the beef products, chicken and fish will be supplied by OSI and Australian Food Corporation (Qureshi and Hassan, 2013). Also, Inghams Enterprise, McCain, Simplot and other partners can supply fries, hashbrowns and other food products according to the quality to complete the entire supply chain in the target market. Meanwhile, the quality suppliers can deliver fresh food products and items following the quality audits of the fast food items to maintain the brand identity (Bhuian, 2009). The fast growing fast food industry in the Australian market will be helpful for the business collaborators as well to supply products at a reasonable pricing suitable for companys profit margins. Competitors In the target market of South Australia, McDonalds will face tough competition from KFC, Subway, Hungry Jacks, Red Rooster, and Nandos. Currently, 19.9 percent of market share of fast food restaurant chain industry has been occupied by KFC in Australia. On the other hand, Subway and Hungry Jacks have got 17 percent and 13.1 percent of the entire market share respectively. Among the most popular restaurant chain, the brand identity of McDonalds will definitely work in favour of the organisation to make further market penetration. As far as other new entrants in the market are concerned, the potential threat of new market entrants will be limited (Mujtaba and Patel, 2011). Precisely, to remain competitive in the target market, the quality of fast food items and trademark food products must be presented orderly to the target demographics (Banks, 2016). Moreover, the product segmentation as well as the market segmentation of McDonalds will be effective to stay ahead in the target South A ustralian market. Context A PEST analysis has been conducted herein below to present the other factors that influence the business of McDonalds in the Australian market. Political Factors: The global operations of McDonalds are influenced by the government policies of each country. For example, there are certain political groups in Australia that protest against fast food due to the health implications such as cholesterol and digestive problems (Kawabata, 2013). On the other hand, the company needs to follow several rules and regulations to operate in a smooth manner. Economical Factors: The economic condition of Australia works in favour of the company. The inflation rate in Australia is highly controlled at 1 percent and the good income level of the people provides the firm with better opportunities to expand its business in the country (Kawabata, 2013). Socio-cultural Factors: Australia is a multi-cultural nation with a higher proportion of western people. The Australian population mostly favour fast food for their daily living due to the busy schedule of life (Kawabata, 2013). Technological Factors: The development of technology has made it easier for a restaurant chain business to effectively conduct all its marketing tactics (Kerin and Peterson, 2001). McDonalds provide free Wi-Fi facility and focus on digital advertising to attract more customers. Market Research Strategy In order to collect primary research data from the target market, McDonalds Corporation simply engages renowned research agencies. Meanwhile, the agencies have prepared survey research materials for the selected market area to identify the 5Cs associated with the business structure of the firm (LaPlaca, 2008). By conducting thorough study on the basis of significant methodological consistencies, the market research can define the behaviour of the target demographics, position of the collaborators as well as competitors, threats of new entrants, robust changing business environment and competitive marketing strategy of the other market players. In order to define the customers perspective, random survey study has been conducted to know the choices and preferences of the target demographics (Kotler and Keller, 2016). The research outcome will be helpful to define the best product line and services strategy to impress the consumers. The study research and market intelligence programme on specific market region can collect best information about the localising fast food menus and food items mostly preferred by the target demographics. Thus, positioning strategy of the firm can be structured to get the best response from the target demographic profile (Levy, 2012). Meanwhile, the existing pricing strategy and standard of services of the other market operators can be identified during the study. The research agencies hired by McDonalds to conduct the primary research study will also identify the probability of new entrants by collecting information about the existing market share of the best participants (Abdullah Saif, 2015). Precisely, in the target market, the fast food chain business is a perfect competition. Hence, the entry of a new firm will not make a massive impact on the revenue of the operating firms. Lastly, the role of the collaborators such as the suppliers, distributors and franchisee must be recogni sed before making any business commitment. Thus, the research on the collaborators will help McDonalds to find the collaborators that can provide quality products at a reasonable pricing (Thomadsen, 2007). Developing Marketing Strategy The research study on market will evidently clear out the best segmentation, targeting as well as positioning strategy for McDonalds in the target market as follows: Segmentation Type Segmentation Criteria Target Segment Geographic Density Urban areas Region Domestic market Demographic Age between age group of eight to fifty Gender Males and Females Income Status Low income, middle class income Occupation Students, business professionals and service people Life style Bachelor Newly Married Family including children Psychographic Lifestyle of target demographics The product line of McDonalds has been targeted according to the preferences of different style of people having diverse set of lifestyle Social Class Lower income class, middle class and hard-working class Behavioural Personality fast food loving careless and enjoying people Loyalty of target demographics Hardcore as well as loyal customers Status of target demographics Regular customers Target Market Identifying the target market is a key to success for business growth. In this study, the South Australian market has been determined to be the marketplace for McDonalds. Clearly, the growth of fast food industry in the Australia has encouraged McDonalds to set up new outlets in the South Australian market (Williams, 2015). Value Proposition for the target market In order to make the finest business growth in the target market, customer value proposition will be the key to success. Precisely, efficient value proposition resonate to target demographics must be defined so that the purchasing behaviour of the target demographics can be highly influenced. Herein, the brand identity of McDonalds, quality food items, smart on time delivery features and magnificent service efficiency of the firm can be represented to construct the value proposition (Bhuian, 2009). Positioning Statement Branding of business is extremely important to stay competitive in a target market. Precisely, McDonalds should focus on the target audience providing the best quality and magnificent services. In the South Australian market, distinctive service benefits must be given to the consumers to increase popularity of the fast food restaurant chain (Mujtaba and Patel, 2011). Moreover, unique pricing strategy and discount offers must be promoted at the marketing level to keep the consumers interested. Developing Marketing Tactics A detailed marketing mix has been presented herein below to support the above marketing strategy: Product: McDonalds will introduce localised foods with new varieties to attract new customers. On the other hand, it needs to keep on introducing new food range that will retain back old customers (Wilson and Gilligan, 2005). Furthermore, the company will focus on developing its customer service by delivering food at door step and taking online orders. Place: The Company needs to expand its business in the South Western Australia by using the franchising or joint venture strategy (Sheehan, 2011). McDonalds has planned to open 100 stores in the South Western region of Australia with all sorts of modern facilities and services. Price: McDonalds need to implement a competitive pricing policy in order to fight the high level of competition from KFC and Subway. On the other hand, the company can make use of discount strategy in order to attract more customers (Sheehan, 2011). Promotion: McDonalds is involved in digital advertising and need to focus on its target market. On the other hand, the management needs to use several other promotion techniques such as hoardings, transportation advertisement, and several other modern advertisement techniques (Wilson and Gilligan, 2005). Processes: McDonalds needs to focus on improving its customer service by employing part time workers to deliver quick service during the rush hours (Kotler and Keller, 2016). On the other hand, the company will also provide home delivery services within a particular range to attract more customers. Physical Evidence: In order to deliver physical evidence, the company can provide McDonalds toys to kids to increase their satisfaction level. On the other hand, free gifts can be given to make people remember about their visit to the McDonalds restaurants (Kotler and Keller, 2016). People: McDonalds will hire HR professionals to train the new staffs of the franchisees opening in the new market. Along with that, the company will provide lead chefs and front line managers to the franchisee stores to control the new workforce (Kotler and Keller, 2016). On the other hand, the company will hire part time staffs in order to manage the customers during the rush hours. Conclusion During the marketing management of McDonalds in the target market, specific market analyses and potential segmentation of market should be done as discussed in the marketing strategy section. Precisely, in the robust business environment, the brand name of the organisation can play a major role to create brand positioning in an automatic way. Understandably, to meet the demand of the target demographics, the quality of fast food must be delivered to create significant competitive edge in the target market. Also, the differentiation of food products will be handy in the marketing strategy to stay ahead of the rest of the fast food restaurant chain in the target South Australian market. Baz Luhrmanns Interpretation of the opening scene Essay Example

Baz Luhrmanns Interpretation of the opening scene Essay Example Baz Luhrmanns Interpretation of the opening scene Paper Baz Luhrmanns Interpretation of the opening scene Paper Concentrating on the presentation of character, setting and sound, analyse review and comment on what seems to you to be significant features of Baz Luhrmanns style as a film director, with particular reference to Romeo and Juliet Baz Luhrmanns recreation of Shakespeares play Romeo and Juliet, as a film text, has been a great success in todays modern world. Baz Luhrmanns intentions, in making this film, were to take a classic Shakespearean play (something that not that many young people appreciate any more in this modern age) and to modernise it. To translate the image of what would have been an exciting source of entertainment in the 17th century into a fun filled action/romantic movie suitable for the demanding eyes of the modern worlds youth . Baz Luhrmann had ask himself the question: if Shakespeare were alive today, how would he of made the movie. The expression he uses is putting Shakespeare on a billboard in Time Square. The film opens with a picture of a television screen switched off then, with no sound, clicks one with a few credits on the screen as if someone is changing the channel to find something that would interest them then clicks onto this channel with a newsreader reading out what sounds like news but is the prologue of Romeo and Juliet. While the newsreader is reading out this in the background in a box, where you would see a picture of a broken wedding band, which symbolises the broken love between Romeo and Juliet. Then uses a series of camera styles like rapid zoom and whooshing noise as it goes into the image of the newsreader, followed by dramatic music. The images then start whooshing onto other similar images of Verona and with this the prologue is repeated by the priest, with a more stern and authentic voice. Then it shows pictures of the cast with information about them. This is the introduction to Baz Luhrmanns film and with this he catches the viewers attention. He achieves this by giving the viewers a taste of the excitement to come by showing a few short clips of some if the film. This makes them hungry for more. In the first scene of this recreational play we start off with 3 men from the house of Montague, the Montague Boys, which we see at the start of the film accompanied with a big title saying: THE MONTAGUE BOYS and a rap style song repeating the words: the boys, the boys. They are achieving what Shakespeare wanted them to do originally going around being boisterous and rowdy but in a modern days style. In the original play the 2 men are just going around a market place showing off Baz Luhrmann pretty much goes along the same line of what happened in the original play but with cars, tall extravagant buildings, helicopters, sirens etc. Baz Luhrmann puts the Montagues in a petrol station where they meat up with there rivals the Capulets and recreates the confrontations with guns, which just so happen have the brand name of swords, rapiers etc. Its all very clever if youve seen the original play. Even though that Baz Luhrmann has changed the visuals and made the film more modern he hasnt changed the script he has still kept it in that same Shakespearean tong: thus, thou hast, knowest, thow etc. He did this for 2 reasons: 1 because if he didnt keep the script it would virtually be the same as East side story (another recreation of Romeo and Juliet) and 2 to bring a piece of the 17th century and stick it in the film to show people, of the modern world, how Shakespeare made his play. Baz Luhrmann kept the original scripture of the film; he did this so that he still kept the true nature of the play pure. In doing this he had to make the visuals far more stunning, majestic and exaggerated so as to make it so the audience could understand it through the visual image of the film. The characters in Luhrmanns films are very exaggerated so by looking at the way they act and speak you can instantly tell what kind of person they are in the film: The bad guy, the funny guy, the romantic guy etc. For example the two Montague boys are all rough and tough when they are talking behind the Capulets back but when they are face to face with the Capulets they are very jumpy and scared and also very comical at the same time. But the Capulet boys are much more mean and bullish. Abra a big scary looking character who strikes fear into the Montagues he also loses his temper and Tybalt. Tybalt being the main big bad guy of the film is very harsh and cruel he looks like a big gun slinger. He has a very stylised character his movement his whole style gives him a great sense of character even by the way that he speaks you know he is the bad guy. The complexity of the sound involved in Baz Luhrmanns creations is quite fascinating. At any one point in the film there are a lot of sounds being played for all the different types of things, which you can here, even in the simplest scenes. Many of the sounds are synthesized this means the sounds are created by a computer, this allows the editor to add in and take out sound with ease. Youll see an image on the screen and will be listening to a complex layering of sounds, which will all be playing at once. For example: footsteps, gunshots, whooshing and cars in the background, dialogue and much more. The music will change to the emotion of the person or the film. If you were to listen to all the sounds individually and added together you would be able to hear how the affects are achieved and see how complicated it actually is. All the sounds are stored on a sound deck and are then arranged and played at the times required. The film even has its own sound track, which was released into the charts and went number one at one stage or another. People listened to this and were deeply encouraged to go and watch the film because of what they heard from the soundtrack. Sound is used to enhance emotion and interest: the rap style music at the start of the film when the Montague boys are in their car, a cougar roar sound is emitted when the car revs its engine (this is used to give a sense of danger) Silence is also used to increase tension. Exaggerated sounds on small objects are also used for this purpose. Choreography is the word, which means style of the character and the movement of the character i. e. the style of the movement given out gives a sense of character. Tybalts style is very intriguing in the way that he moves almost like hes dancing. Tybalts movement is meant to be a sort of flamenco dance; he moves very fluently and gives a sense that he is an experienced gun fighter. The part when every thing goes silent and Tybalt comes onto the scene and all you see is boots which then crush on a dropped match and emits that horrible grinding sound. The way in which Tybalt moves embellishes his character. The Montague boys are very jumpy and scared and react with great movement this is called Pantomimic exaggeration. In the first scene 170 shots were used. The techniques used in the film were very much the same as the ones used in western films. The film was meant to be in a western genre, a spaghetti western. A spaghetti western is a sought of love story/ western. The camera techniques used in the film are very good at delivering different emotions or to increase/decrease tension. Big wide shots are less dramatic than the suspension given out by a close up shot. In the first scene there is a large variety of camera styles used, such as when Abra is confronting the Montague boys and the camera suddenly zooms in on his teeth with the word S I N inscribed on them, with camera is looking up at him, this terrifies the Montagues and then causes one of the Montague boys falls back into the car and the camera is looking down on him. When a camera is looking up at a character it is much more scarier than when a camera is looking down upon someone. Computer aided technology was used to help design the costumes for the characters in the film a photos was taken of the actor and the designs where then put on to the computer software to be mapped out and used so they could try samples on the actors to see how it looked and see if they liked it or not, in that context. The Montagues wore bright Hawaiian styled open t-shirts while the Capulets wore flat jackets and darker clothing in a more Latino style. They have also spent a lot of time designing the guns for the films, which symbolize the swords in the original play (thats why the gun brand is called swords). You see in the film the two buildings of both Montague and Capulet, this represents the focus on religious iconography shows that religion (the 2 families are both religious families and respect there religious beliefs) and the law are not able to maintain the battle, the confrontation, and the feud between these to households. Miami was used to shoot the film because of its Latino genre and its religious environment hot country- hot blooded. The gas station was used in the film to symbolize modern city life and to keep the scene similar to that of the original play: market square and gas station both places of common publicity.

TERM PAPER Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

TERM PAPER - Essay Example healthcare system. The emergence of new diseases and continuous growth of the population have triggered the need to modernize disease prevention and public health systems. In the past, the clamor for a National Health Insurance was the outcry of many administrations – in the U.S. and many countries in Europe. Recently however, the Obama administration has pushed for the full implementation of its once a campaign platform but now has become a law, the Affordable Care Act or what is popularly known as the ObamaCare. The aim of this law is to implement within the next ten years an Information System for the healthcare sector and to invest $10 billion annually for the many programs about health insurance and address the problems and challenges of healthcare. Modernizing disease prevention and public health systems is a question of policies and political will. If there is political will, all things are possible under the sun. But what should be modernized? The Medicare and the Medi caid are two healthcare programs that insure U.S. citizens but the system is already rotten and needs to be reprogrammed to address healthcare problems of the people. Medicare was designed to provide healthcare insurance to seniors and the disabled. It was run by the government to focus on reimbursing healthcare expenses and financed by federal taxes but also shared by payroll tax from employers and their workers, to include individual enrollees. Medicare covers hospitalization expenses, physician fees, and expenses for drugs. Medicare Gaps The Medicare program has many gaps which need review and so-called modernization. For example, insurance lacks nursing services, inadequate preventive care insurance, and no insurance for dental, loss of hearing, or vision. Since there is lack of insurance, some enrollees resort to supplemental insurance and so more expenses for the citizens. This gap needs to be reviewed and covered by the ObamaCare, or the Affordable Care Act launched by the pr esent administration. The Medicaid is a government insurance program for the poor and the disabled. It is also the program for poor pregnant women, children, seniors, disabled, and poor parents. Although it’s a federal program, states are given the leeway to improve the coverage and eligibility options. (Chua, 2006, p. 2) Incentives for Prevention of Chronic Diseases Stakeholders in disease prevention should be provided with government incentives. Again this is a question of policies. Policy makers should be able to determine the areas where care is most needed, know the various stakeholders and identify their motivational factors where they could be effective in disease prevention, and develop systems in accessing the incentives. (Singh as cited in Committee on Living Well with Chronic Disease: Public Action to Reduce Disability and Improve Functioning and Quality of Life, Institute of Medicine, 2011, p. 240) Modernizing Disease Prevention and Public Health Systems Problems in healthcare require new ways of detection and prevention of illness. Aids and other virus-triggered diseases are considered new diseases that require new techniques and methods. A. Clinical and Community Preventive Services When there is improved collaboration among health professionals and the community, there is increased reduction in health disparities, deaths and morbidity. Public and private sectors should focus more on the 65-years-and-older sector as this is growing. This is composed of Baby Boomers who

Death Penalty and Deterrence Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1

Death Penalty and Deterrence - Essay Example The death penalty is an ultimate punishment which may provoke criminals having low motives to refrain from crimes however such crimes are usually committed under the extreme state of mind or for significant motives, therefore, the fear of death can have limited effectiveness in deterrence from crimes. Definition provided by Grimes (2010) states, â€Å"Deterrence includes the direct and indirect benefits of punishing offenders: specific or direct deterrence refers to the inability of the offender to commit any further crimes due to the extent of this particular form of punishment, while general or indirect deterrence presumably serves to deter the general public from committing the offense(s) which resulted in the death sentence for the death penalty (p. 2010)†. Therefore, capital punishment is expected to have the tendency of ensuring that crime is avoided due to its fear. According to the American Civil Liberties Union (2012), there are limited shreds of evidence as to how ca pital punishment contributes to reducing crime rates. It is important to note that a punishment or penalty imposed by law can be deterrent to a crime when its severe enough against the crime committed, can be applied with certainty and up to a just level of frequency. On the other hand, capital punishment although daunting ensures that a criminal does not have to suffer adequately for the severe crimes committed by them as compared to a lengthy imprisonment. It is argued that a punishment can only serve its purpose of deterring crime and also providing justice to criminal as well as the victim if it has consistency and adequacy in it. However, it is difficult to find these characteristics in a capital punishment. Firstly, despite an increase in capital punishments in the last few decades, the actual percentage of execution is limited mainly because of after sentence investigations and appeals after conviction. According to BBC U.K. (2012), â€Å"in the USA at least, only a small mi nority of murderers are actually executed, and that imposition of capital punishment on a "capriciously selected random handful" of offenders does not amount to a consistent program of retribution. Since capital punishment is not operated retributively, it is inappropriate to use retribution to justify capital punishment.† In order to protect the rights of convicted, necessary measures are required to be taken to ensure that wrong convict are not punished and the punishment itself is adequate enough under the protection provided by constitutional rights as well. Such lengthy measures undermine the effectiveness of capital punishment. Since these processes are time taking and the ratio of appeals’ success is relatively higher, therefore the punishment itself appears to have leniency in it negating its deterrent nature. Secondly, the crimes for which capital punishment is imposed are usually taking place in the state of extreme emotional pressure, substance abuse or traum a which questions the mental stability of a person to make logical decisions regarding his/ her actions (American Civil Liberties Union, 2012). On the other hand, there have been cases reported in which crimes were committed for self-defense or by those whose mental health was questionable. Since these factors have a tendency of affecting the court’s decisions greatly, these grey areas can be used by criminals and lawyers for avoiding conviction.

Macbeth - The Central Themes of the Play Essay Example for Free

Macbeth The Central Themes of the Play Essay The central themes of the play are highlighted by the sinister statement made by the witches at the very beginning of the play, Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air. The whole tone for the play is set as it is a drama about contradictory forces and ideas: light and darkness; good and evil; holy and unholy; loyalty and disloyalty; trust and mistrust; what is natural and unnatural; honesty and deception. The witches mention of Macbeth is significant because he is immediately associated with evil. Duncan decides to appoint Macbeth as the next Thane of Cawdor as the previous one was a traitor, he says, No more that Thane of Cawdor shall deceive Our bosom interest. Go pronounce his present death, And with his former title greet Macbeth. This is ironic as Macbeth has inherited the title of a traitor and the title leads to Duncans killing and ultimately Macbeths downfall. This is also a link to the fair is foul statement as Macbeth seems fair, noble and a good servant for the king but in the end he kills Duncan and is evil. Macbeth has the capacity to kill for both good and evil. Duncan realises that he cant judge people by their appearances and that they can be deceptive, Theres no art To find the minds construction in the face: This is ironic as he about to make the same mistake with the next Thane of Cawdor, the fact that people can be deceptive is reflected by fair is foul as people arent always what they seem. When Macbeth realises that one of the witches prophesies has come true Banquo says, What! Can the devil speak true? This is saying that the witches are the devil and evil but they have spoken the truth which is not expected, this mixes good and evil referring back to fair is foul and one of the themes this statement explores. Macbeth is also immediately liked with evil as he echoes the witches, So foul and fair a day I have not seen. The witches have established their deliberate evil and their powerful presence in the play, Macbeth has become their victim, we can see this where he says Upon the blasted heath you stop our way With such prophetic greeting? Speak, I charge you. This shows that Macbeth is drawn into what they are saying and also indicates the witches power over him as they just vanish. Macbeths echo links him with the themes that these words explore, he uses ironic lines such as, Win us with honest trifles, to betrays In deepest consequence. Macbeth is now liked with the themes such as honesty, betrayal and loyalty all explored by the fair is foul, and foul is fair statement, Macbeth is gradually being drawn more and more towards evil by his own weaknesses. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth share a very close relationship which is based around trust and honesty. Macbeth is ambitious and Lady Macbeth is trying to help him achieve his ambition, All that impedes thee from the golden round, Which fate and metaphysical aid doth seem To have thee crownd withal. This is ironic as although the wealth and power seems very attractive to them once they get it the trust, honesty and closeness they had is lost, this once links back to the fair is foul theme. Lady Macbeth also tells Macbeth to be deceitful and disguise the truth, Look at the time, bear welcome in your eye, Your hand, your toungue: look like the innocent flower But be the serpent undert. This shows that Macbeth looks innocent and fair but inside he is evil and foul. Duncan ironically praises Macbeths castle as pleasant and welcoming, This castle hath a pleasant seat; the air Nimbly and sweetly recommends itself Unto our gentle senses. This shows that fair is foul as the castle looks pleasant from the outside but is evil within and is where Duncan is to be murdered. Duncan also praises Lady Macbeth as the noble, welcoming hostess; she is deceptive and puts on the false face of goodness to Duncan when really she is planning his murder, she says, Your majesty loads our house: for those of old, and the late dignities heapd up to them, Macbeths ambition overpowers his conscience and morality with the help of Lady Macbeth and he commits the murder. Once they find out that Duncan has been murdered Macbeth again plays innocent and is not genuine, for example, You are, and do not knowt: The spring, the head, the fountain of your blood Is stoppd; the very source of it is stoppd. Macbeth conceals what he knows and pretends to be horrified by the murder in contrast to Macduff who is genuine, Macbeths language is over elaborate. The theme of natural and unnatural is created throughout the play, for example when the Old Man says, T is unnatural, Even like the deed thats done. On Tuesday last, A falcon, towering in her pride of place, Was by a mousing owl hawked at, and killed. This means that nature has changed and become strange and unnatural and reflects the murder and unnaturalness of Duncans death. Macbeth holds a Banquet at which Banquo is supposed to be present but Macbeth has murdered him, this shows that fair is foul as everything seems normal but it is not and the ghost of Banquo turns up to haunt Macbeth. When Macbeth goes to visit the witches again they are cunning and employ equivocation, juggling with words to disguise the truth and lull Macbeth into a false sense of security. This is shown where they say, The power of man, for none of woman born Shall harm Macbeth. This is making Macbeth feel safe without them lying as Macduff was cut from his mother when she was dead, the witches are deceiving him showing that foul is fair. When Macduff goes to ask Malcom to raise an army to fight Macbeth and bring order back to Scotland Malcom accuses himself of being evil and foul. He is cautious to make sure Macduff is not trying to leur him back to Macbeth, he says, To make me hunger more, that I should forge Quarrels unjust against the good and loyal, Destroying them for wealth. Malcom is appearing foul but is fair in contrast to Macbeth, Malcom believes in Maduffs integrity and decided to help him. Malcom also says, The night is long that never find the day. This means that every black, evil night comes to a good day, foul is fair. The contrasts become moral contrasts and Macbeth has lost everything, eventually goodness overpowers evil.

Struggle for Equal Work Essay -- essays research papers fc

Struggle for Equal Work The development of the Lowell Mills in the 1820s provided American women with their first opportunity to work outside the home with reasonable wages and relatively safe work. About ten years later however, working in the mills wasn’t the same. Working conditions became more vigorous, the mills were unsafe and the pay received didn’t match the amount of work done. The Lowell family’s textile mills were set up to attract the unmarried daughters of farm families, hoping that they would work a few years before getting married. These young women were called â€Å"Lowell Mill Girls.† A typical working day in the mills started with a factory bell ringing at about four in the morning to wake up employees. After this, employees had to be at the mills in an hour and work until late in the evening. This would sometimes lead to 12-14 hour days. Often times, women were expected to tend about three or four machines at the same. It was a lot of work, but at the time the pay offered was the highest wage available. In the 1830s, wages ranged from $.44 to $1.58 per day, depending on the speed and skill of the worker. This was about half the amount paid to the male mill worker. The air in the mills was not circulated causing it to become very hot in the summer and extremely cold in the winter. Company supervisors believed that opening any windows would cause threads to break more often so they chose to leave windows shut tight at all times. This is an example of how product...

Unit 006 “Roles Responsibilities and Relationships in Lifelong Learning

George Bowskill PAGE 1 15/02/2011 â€Å"Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships as a Tutor in Lifelong Learning† (2:1) The Different types of Boundaries between the Teaching Role and Other Professional roles. The purpose of boundaries are to protect the personal rights of both yourself and the student, they define the acceptable ground rules taking in to account currant legislation.Professional boundaries are important because they define the limits and responsibilities of the people that you interact with in the workplace. When workplace boundaries are clearly defined, the company will work more efficiently because old redundant work assignments are removed and task performance is accountable. When everyone in an company is made aware who is responsible for what? , a healthier workplace environment is created. It then becomes very difficult for someone to blame others for their failed or inadequate performance and good job performance can clearly be identified. the setup of boundaries and priorities go hand in hand because together they help manage interpersonal relationships in the workplace. Together they go a long way toward establishing a productive work environment based on trust. Competent and knowledgeable managers understand these principles and continually model them for their staff.Boundaries within teaching are not easily defined; it can mean different things to different people. Teachers are responsible for recognizing in themselves whether they are â€Å"at risk† of crossing boundaries whether this be legal, moral or ethical boundaries, becoming too personally involved with students, giving one student undue attention, writing or exchanging notes, letters or emails are all forms of boundary abuse The most extreme form of boundary violation is that of sexual abuse..Sexual abuse represents the ultimate breach of the trust in a teacher, the teacher must be able to recognize and rectify this behaviour, before the boundary is over stepp ed. Time restraints are also boundaries, and should be taken into account, we need to ensure what we teach can be done within the time given. The curriculum and the organizational objectives are boundaries to the way and what we teach, the curriculum is specifically what we are asked to teach, hence we have a structure relating to the information we need to ass on to the learners,. We could possibly have organizational objectives also, these are the objectives of the governing body, this could be Government, Exam body, or Professional body, although these should be in line with the curriculum the could possibly add additional boundaries to the way we teach (2:2) Points of Referral to meet the needs of LearnersAs a teacher we have a responsibility to our students to give aid and assistance not only in the academic sense but also with personal and work issues, and in most cases this should be done by referring the student to a professional with a greater and more specific knowledge in these area, these can be both internal and external points of referral, for instance, if the student is homeless or about to become homeless, an accommodation officer would be the direction to point the student, if it is for health reasons we should direct the student to a health professional, ether on campus or at a local surgery.Other points of referral could for example be the students union, a councillor or a careers advisor, a drug and alcohol addiction service, or the citizens’ advice bureau, in other words any internal or external professional that can help the student with any issue they may encounter, we must always remember these people are experts in their given fields, as a teacher we are not. Identify the professional first then note your responsibility, to your student the professional and yourself. (2:3) Responsibilities with regards to other Professionals Page 2 As a teacher we have a responsibility to other professionals and professional bodies. We should res pect their professionalism and maintain constant dialog with other professionals, we should document and record all aspects of our teaching, and make these available to other professionals for various reasons, such as audits and evaluations, other professionals could be Directors, senior management, even internal or external advisors, and exam board personnel, If in doubt it is always advisable to ask assistance from another professional, their experience and knowledge can be far greater than your own. 3:1) Responsibilities for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment As a teacher it is our responsibility to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all the students in our care, this is done by utilizing the training cycle Firstly we identify the needs of the student, what they need to learn, and how we intend to teach them.A clean, safe and secure room to learn in, with the room layout adequate for the purpose, Welfare facilities, wash rooms toilets a pla ce to eat and drink, the room to maintain a comfortable temperature with good lighting and ventilation, we need also to set down ground rules to safe guard the physical and emotional welfare of the students and oneself. to enable them to feel secure during the learning experience, and to encourage diversity and equality within the learning environment. We then prepare for teaching, ensuring we have the adequate resources available for the lesson . including a structured time table. Lessons should be S. M. A. R. T. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time bound. We then deliver the lesson, or lecture, using suitable diverse systems of delivery, such as Visual aids, written work role play group sessions, ensuring that all students feel involved in the learning experience. and no one feels alienated, my the teacher or their fellow students. The more a student feels involved in a class the better the learning result will be. To quantify the lesson we assess it, by various mea ns, Student feedback, student progression and achievement, at this point we need to evaluate, did the facility lens its self to the needs of the students, where there any deficiencies in the facility’s in your teaching methods, where the students comfortable, did they feel safe , DO I NEED TO MAKE ANY CHANGES.We should not be afraid to challenge behaviours if we don’t what would be the point of having boundaries as a teacher it is our responsibility to enforce the Page 3 boundaries that we have laid down, encouraging and maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment. 3:2) Ways of Promoting Appropriate Behaviour and Respect for Others Establishing Ground rules and boundaries, encourage the students to have an input in to what the ground rules and boundaries within the class should be, how they wish to be treated, and how you need to be treated, giving mutual respect between teacher and student and student and student, and establish disciplinary action for breac hes of the rules, encourage mutual support within the class both academic and emotional, and encourage he student to help produce a ground rule charter and sign it,. In this way you are allowing them to take ownership of the rules B. F Skinners 1974 (About Behaviourism) is a particularly relevant theory this contends that negative and positive reinforcement will help to direct behaviour, a positive reinforcement will strengthen any behaviour that produces it, . i. e. The carrot and donkey scenario. Where as a negative reinforcement, will initiate the response that the protagonist will want to remove, i. e. f he is removed from the class for a breach of discipline he will not want this to happen again thus removing the negative reinforcement By challenging inappropriate or negative behaviour we are enforcing the boundaries that we have set in essence we are saying these are the rules and they will not be ignored, it also lets anyone who is prepared to breach the boundaries that we as teachers will not allow this to happen, it also conveys the message to compliant students, that we will enforce the boundaries to support, a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment, free from bullying, anti social behaviour, disruptive influences. An environment where all can learn.. The Garden of Earthly Delights is the modern title given to a triptych painted by the Early Netherlandish master Hieronymus Bosch. It has been housed in the Museo del Prado in Madrid since 1939. Dating from between 1490 and 1510, when Bosch was between about 40 and 60 years old, it is his best-known and most ambitious complete work. It reveals the artist at the height of his powers; in no other painting does he achieve such complexity of meaning or such vivid imagery. The left panel (220 Ãâ€" 97.5 cm, 87 Ãâ€" 38.4 in) (sometimes known as the Joining of Adam and Eve) depicts a scene from the paradise of the Garden of Eden commonly interpreted as the moment when God presents Eve to Adam. The painting shows Adam waking from a deep sleep†¦show more content†¦Bosch depicts a world in which humans have succumbed to temptations that lead to evil and reap eternal damnation. The tone of this final panel strikes a harsh contrast to those preceding it. The scene is set at night, and the natural beauty that adorned the earlier panels is noticeably absent. Compared to the warmth of the center panel, the right wing possesses a chilling quality—rendered through cold colourisation and frozen waterways—and presents a tableau that has shifted from the paradise of the center image to a spectacle of cruel torture and retribution. In a single, densely detailed scene, the viewer is made witness to cities on fire in the background; war, tort ure chambers, infernal taverns, and demons in the midground; and mutated animals feeding on human flesh in the foreground. The nakedness of the human figures has lost all its eroticism, and many now attempt to cover their genitalia and breasts with their hands. The triptych is painted in oil on oak and is formed from a square middle panel flanked by two other oak rectangular wings that close over the center as shutters. The outer wings, when folded, show a grisaille painting of the earth during the biblical narrative of Creation. The three scenes of the inner triptych are probably (but not necessarily) intended to be read chronologically from left to right. The left panel depicts God presenting Eve to Adam, the central panel is a broad
